Q 1.The U.S. has identified MS 13 as a transnational criminal organization (TCO). What effect will that have, if any, on how this gang is dealt with. Also, why these guys and why now. Transnational Criminal Organizations receive more attention than the normal gangs. This can have a different effect on the gangs rather than general street gangs. When a street gang like MS-13 gets a new status of a TCO, its actions are more closely monitored by the police professionals. Finklea (2018) noted “MS-13 was born on the streets of Los Angeles, CA. It was formed in the 1980s by refugees who were fleeing civil conflict in El Salvador” and this traces this gang’s roots which is buried down in the history.
